The lady next to me was giggling and having a good time then suddenly got up and left right when Sue was going for The Substance Round 2. Trying to figure out which one of us had the better experience.

I once again find myself in this all too familiar situation. Having finally brought myself to watch a major personal blind spot, feeling like I've discovered the greatest film ever made and that I need to tell everybody... but everybody already knows.

Ariel 1988
I've always struggled to relate to classic Finnish culture because of the often dismal, pessimistic and downright stereotypical portrayal of the country and its inhabitants (maybe it's because the Finland I grew up in was just named the happiest country in the world for the fourth year in a row).
Ariel does have a little of that but only to the extent where it perfectly complements the story. The main character Taisto constantly runs into bad luck and shitty situations…
