Absolutely perfect script from start to finish. The characters are all so wonderful and the dialogue is funny and charming. I am already in awe of Lubitsch, I can’t wait to watch his other films!
Side note: “But it still rings.” – the rusty typewriter is used as a brilliant analogy for a romance that was brought to a halt for a while. Just like the ring, the spark is still there.
An amusing film that takes a satirical look at the tourism industry in the south of France (back in 1958!).
Agnès Varda shows the Côte d'Azur in beautiful, colorful shots, while a narrator ironically comments on these impressions off-screen.
