Hirayama, the lead of “Perfect Days,” lives a structured life; he goes to work early in morning, takes photos of trees during his lunch break, reads every night before bed, frequents the same bar and restaurant, and enjoys listening to old cassette tapes of popular songs from the 70s and 80s. There’s nothing inherently eventful about Hirayama’s life, but I couldn’t keep my eyes off of the screen.

It may have taken the deep pockets of Apple to create this, and it may only have a life on a streaming service, but “Killers of the Flower Moon” is what cinema is all about. This is why filmmakers get out of bed in the morning; to make something as big, as bold, and as personal as this.

If this really is Martin Scorsese’s final film, what a way to go.

In making his solo feature debut as a director, Sean Price Williams has proven that not only can he make a scene look good, he also knows how to make a scene work. What could have been merely shock value, edgelord nonsense, is actually audaciously entertaining. “The Sweet East” is punk as fuck.

    ★★★½

Bones and All is a gruesome blood-fest that cuts deep and may just rip your heart out. Despite the grotesqueness of it all, Guadagnino manages to craft a poignant, tender love story that is equal parts endearing and agonising.
