  A classic gritty New York tale of the seedy underbelly of the NYPD. I’m not usually a big fan of Al Pacino’s acting but in here I think his acting style was great with his mounting frustration of his superiors’ inaction to combat police corruption. The wardrobe and makeup were great and helped to demonstrate Pacino’s transformation into a naive cop into a plain clothes officer increasingly fed up with the system.   What an absolutely misogynistic dumpster fire this movie was. It’s legit an hour and a half of voyeurism. Not to mention that the damn titular character has no speaking lines. So terrible for a director who has made other great films to go in this direction.
