Overarching reaction:
I want to like this film, but not as much as it wants me to like it. That is to say, the humor and drama often compete instead of compliment each other. The drama never builds to the point of real tension, and the humor comes in big, cartoon punches, like hey, laugh...right...NOW! Because the cast was deep and talented, I was entertained, but I left with mixed emotions.

Kill Your Darlings 2013
I'm just so happy to give this a 4.0! It's so damn hard to make a subtle, interesting film about writers, especially the beats, with all of the cool-as-shit baggage that people attach to them, including yours truly. This one works. (Kerouac sounded more like Jack than looked, which was nice.)
It's probably closer to a 3.66 or 3.67, but this movie is "my ballpark," and so props for "things we like" must be given. All quotation marks aside, Harry Potter looks good naked.
Go see it. Then enroll at Columbia...with me.
