There is a lot of skill demonstrated in the precision and simplicity of this really enjoyable drama- one that brilliantly frames themes of fidelity and marriage by a world of deception and secrets.

It has it’s moments of tension, but most of the film is spent steeping in biting yet captivating dialogue, soft and glowing luminescence, and a kind of sexiness that I can actually support as a Christian.

There are no sex scenes, no nudity, and nothing else that…

Had a slow afternoon at work so watched this on my phone while working through a few tasks.

Once again really impressed by Céline Sciamma’s direction, sound design, and often silent yet incredibly potent emotion. Takes things in a very creative direction while maintaining its minimalistic presentation. While its visuals do not look as vibrant and painterly as Portrait’s, the colors and lighting are still incredibly lovely and pleasing in its own way. A great and heartfelt film that does a lot with its 70-minute runtime.

Could not think of a worse time in U.S. history to release a film about trying to find the good in leaders who have committed heinous offenses.

Speaking of heinous offenses, I’d like to speak to the teams in charge of writing, casting, cinematography, lighting, and production design.

This film almost met my expectations and I had a good time seeing some friends and discussing after. It’s bad, but not extremely so.

Bong’s anti-capitalist, anti-colonial, and pro-goofiness fingerprints are all over this amalgamation of a sci-fi comedy.

Normally, I’d expect this type of thing to be my jam- I’m all for absurdism and over-the-top weirdness framing my critiques of society and American nationalism. However, something about Mickey 17 didn’t click- its pacing was lacking any sort of momentum, nothing drew me to the characters (despite everyone fully committing!!) and the both sci-fi and philosophical ideas felt pushed to the side. I didn’t…
