Werner Herzog is definitely one of the greatest things to happen to film and cinema.
He has an autistic level obsession of putting the audience right in the thick of the story. You sit there and watch his movies and think ‘oh my god they actually did that’. The man is a mad man, genius and pioneer.
Arguably the film that had most impact on me in my life. My childhood favourite and still to this day one of my all time favourite movies.
A masterpiece of animated cinema. A shame a sequel was never made but I’m glad this film can stand the test of time and remain as a beautiful story for generations to come.

“Stop crying, you look like a monkey” is not a line I expected to break my heart.
What a performance from this little girl, and credit to the director for eliciting that kind of performance from her. A deeply captivating character, coupled with some truly wonderful insight into the dynamics of a family.
