  It's hard not to love this movie. I remember watching it so many times as a kid my parents begged me to watch anything else. I actually call my grandad "Dudecrush" because of this movie (could not tell you why my little brain decided he was the surfer turtle, but he doesn't seem to mind). I was kind of surprised by how dark and depressing this one is as an adult, and that kind of makes me like it more.…

  The movie is absolutely beautiful. I really felt the casting was superb. I’ve never watched anything with Lily Rose Depp in it before, but she was inarguably incredible as Ellen. Aaron Taylor Johnson, Emma Corrin, and Nicholas Hoult also sold the time period and put on incredible performances. It was hard to believe Skarsgard was behind the monster, he completely fell into the role. I interpreted the movie as intending to address the underlying sexual assault themes in all vampire…

  Whoever pitched 20 minutes of underwater scenes where there can be no dialogue was a little bit deranged. Also I want to know where Lagos is finding all of these ultra trained divers who happen to also have no qualms about working for a crazy man. I’m willing to put my logical side away for a little bit, but I couldn’t help but laugh towards the end.
