The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King 2003
This movie is straight perfection, but everyone already knows that. The deliveries of “I am no man,” “I can’t carry it for you, but I can carry you,” and “My friends, you bow to no one” still hit me on a primal level.
If anyone needs me, I’m about to go grade my students’ finals with the intensity and determination of Aragorn leading the men of Rohan and Gondor into battle.

Inside Out 2 2024
If ‘Inside Out 2’ doesn’t quite reach the heights of the original, it comes incredibly close. Such a treasure of an animated film: clever, inventive, funny, and thoughtful. And of course, it packs an emotional wallop (yes, I teared up multiple times) while conveying a key lesson to its younger viewers and an important and much needed reminder to this older, 32-year-old audience member: we have value and deserve love and acceptance, even when (and especially when) we are struggling. God, I love Pixar, and I loved this movie very much.

Holy shit…I thought I was prepared, but I wasn’t. How the fuck did this movie receive even moderate critical acclaim, let alone 13 OSCAR NOMINATIONS?!? A movie this ridiculous and this bad should at least be laughably entertaining, and yet I was so, so bored. Felt like a five-hour lecture from the most monotone professor (except for the “El Mal” song—that was one bit of fun in this otherwise excruciating watch). Also, Zoe Saldana being nominated for Best Supporting Actress instead of being entered into the Lead category is awards fraud to the highest degree.
