The way Sound was handled was unlike anything I’ve hard on film - deep feel of being deaf’. Powerful how those with a more difficult road can overcome with pride, grace and happiness. The ambiguous final act and the difficulty of ‘coming home’ sticks with you and ‘hearing as an addiction’ only makes sense in the context of the film.

Goodbye, Dragon Inn 2003
Sorry I refuse to accept any genius in 80 minutes of creepy oblivious people walking in and out of a movie theatre. No way. 0.5 star rubbish.

Ran 1985
There are a few directors that critics love and I struggle with. Tarkovsky, Bergman and Kurosawa lead the charge. Ran is considered his epic, and I can neither appreciate the Samurai scenes which always seem unrealistic nor do I buy into the bizarre family dynamics her between father and three sons. I tried on this one to get past my bias and actually found it maybe the worst of all his supposed classics.
