This film made me think about how being a great writer, maybe especially being a great poet, means being a great listener. Sometimes Paterson will catch on to a word that's odd, or misplaced, and repeat it quietly to himself. Adam Driver's performance is so good that you can see the work of the imagination on his face when, for example, a little girl accidentally describes an 'accordion bus.'

Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person 2023
I'm sort of torn about this film. On the one hand, I feel that the ending undermined slightly the emotional core of the film, and some of the central issues that made it gripping. On the other hand, you really feel the love that went into making this film. And the music, the visuals, the dialogue was all so wonderful. It was funny at the right moments, but could also be so sad. I sort of loved it, and that's why I really wish the narrative had been more tight (especially the ending)!
