The Servant 1963
I wanted to watch this movie because last time I saw it I was 17 and I was struck again by its ineffable modernity, which is all the more impressive when we know it was directed a few years after Psycho and L’Avventura. Of course I was starstruck by Dirk Bogarde in this movie, as I was the first time. I love the dynamic between the two characters and the total but subtle reversal of power that unfolds and culminates in the climax with the complete submission of one of the two.
