The Brutalist 2024
Mix between Mary Antins the Promised Land, Scorsese's the Aviator, many 90s to early 2000s bio-pics, and some messed up Kafkaesque nightmare scenarios.
Set design, costumes, and cinematography are all astonishing and inspiring. Brody absolutely nailed the characterization of a haunted and tortured artist who uses his unique brand of creativity, passion, and self-destructive ambition to bridge the gap between the stark numbness and authoritarian brutalist architecture and the emotional fragility of many of the movie's characters.
The film is a visual and emotional triumph. And I'm so glad intermissions are making a comeback.
