Parker Posey, dressed in 90s Todd Oldham and Jean Paul Gaultier, thrashing to a soundtrack of luscious house beats and desperate to become a librarian. J’adore.
Cliché script that fails to create any dramatic tension or satisfying character development. Neither Timothée nor Zendaya are skilled enough actors yet to draw anything out of the flimsy lines they were given, on top of the fact that neither command enough gravitas to feasibly be leading hordes of rebels through a barren desert. The story somehow manages to feel rushed even though the movie dragged on for 3 hours. Highlights were the Bene Gesserit reverend mother in her desert ceremonial dress (Madonna in her bedouin phase) and Charlotte Rampling in a black veil gasping the word “Abomination”
Silly and superficial. I kept waiting for it to get either more weird or more heartfelt but it stayed on the well trodden path of a typical romcom - with the very heavy handed metaphor of the different sets of the tennis game being different periods of their lives… The whole movie wasn’t enough of anything: campy, sexy, nail biting, edgy. When it was over I shrugged.
