I enjoyed this even more so on my second viewing. The attention to detail in the costumes and sets, the performances, the flow of the story, the use of light and shadow, all are impeccable. Orlock is an unstoppable force, commanding nature and death to sate his appetite. Herr Knock devouring the pigeon is reminiscent of Goya’s Saturn Devouring His Son, but even his total devotion is nothing to Orlock as he seeks to fulfill his singular goal. Eggers took one of the most commonly told stories in media and still gives the audience feelings of anticipation throughout.

Poor Things 2023
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
A Frankenstein tale showcasing societies desire for controlled women. While still young and innocent, every man that meets Bella instantly fawns over her and seeks to posses her. Most of these men devolve into madness, alcoholism, or anger as her independence grows and they realize they can no longer control her. Her full culmination as a matriarch at the end of the film is marked by peaceful music, a stark contrast from the discordant tones throughout the film which make you exactly as uncomfortable as men’s obsession with subdued women should.
