The Big Sick 2017
I really liked how the love story felt authentic in all of its wonder and awkwardness and beauty and angst. And it's fun that this was written by a couple telling their "real" story. At the same time, it reminded me of a lot of mainstream French films where the sympathetic Muslim character is non-practicing/non-beleiving and where cultural conflict (the crux of this story) is overcome through assimilation, neither of which require much work on the part of the white/non-Muslim…
