It perfectly captures the feeling of hopelessness I get once I think things will get better, but then I fall back into the same horrible habits. (is there a light at the end of the tunnel?)
I knew I was going to hate this movie from the moment my (male) colleagues at work described it as an "incredibly feminist film" and here we are.
such a gentle movie, and the story is told so beautifully. we don't know what happened to their relationship, but we know that they grew apart. ultimately it's a story about how we perceive our parents as perfect humans when we are kids and how we see them as flawed when we become adults. it's about the cracks in the relationship with our parents, the inevitability of it, and the grief that comes with it.
