It was decent enough. I laughed a few times but most of the slapstick fell flat. I felt a few moments of emotion when Moana was freaking out over almost getting her crew killed, and when Maui seemed to have lost his demigod status or even died, but both sources of possible tension were resolved very quickly. Japanese Sword Fencing 1897
There’s something interesting in the idea of seeing these techniques as they were practiced by people who were actually born while there were real samurai, but the melee of 5 fighters and the chaotic nature of the setup makes it really hard to get a good sense of the forms or purpose. It feels like I’m watching a bunch of kids randomly waving sticks. This might be an effect of the few frames per second, but it doesn’t make for an exceptionally engaging depiction.
