This movie is a LOT. Horrifying, captivating, and very, very, very, long.
This worked more as a capstone to Marty’s filmography and a rebuke to the gleeful crime in his past films than a standalone movie for me. His past crime epics always ended with the criminals facing the consequences of their actions and showing us what a horrifying end was in store for them. But their rise to power was always intoxicating. It was fun to see gangsters be…
In isolation, most aspects of this movie are dynamite. The cinematography? Stunning. The soundtrack? Killer. The performances? Wowzers. But in its totality? Eh.
Nothing works together here, and it just feels like a disjointed mess covered up by (very effective) glitz and glamour and shock.
Genuinely, my favorite part of the movie was the naked dance at the end. I LOVED that. But I just wish the movie was cohesive and good enough that it made me feel like the wild moments were earned.
Made Me Cry: When Emerald Fennell stole my daily choreography routine for the end scene.
I liked the movie. The 70’s-ish style was great, and the movie did feel like a modern version of those classic flicks. Immaculate vibes.
I think it’s a bit overrated. The characters are good and the performances are a cut above, but it was just a better than average feel-good drama to me.
Made Me Cry: Many times. It’s a feel good movie and I’m a sap. The little kid talking about Christmas back home did me in.
I like this movie, but like a lot of Fincher’s work, it leaves me feeling cold. I really enjoyed the style and direction, but it lacks that “thing” that makes me love a movie.
Great execution. But it feels hollow. Brad Pitt eats though.
Made Me Cry: Once, at the realization that I will never look like Brad Pitt.
