Well, it was somehow surpassed, and while I had been anticipating this film since last year, that doesn’t make this any less of a surprise. The trailers and marketing were truly brilliant, leading you down a path towards expecting one thing and getting something completely different in the best possible way. And possibly the only film since S Craig Zahler to actually be inspired by Tarantino, and still understand what makes him great, the slowness, the build-up, the crossing of…

Was the best film of the year for a couple of months until a certain film had to toss it aside and more. Then again this is still the 2nd best film of the year, a rich piece of art which I did not expect. Maybe I’m getting old, but this was really fucking loud and irritating. These are just what big movies are now, callbacks to better movies, surrounded by loud noise and attractions to keep you from being bored. The definition of a theme park ride. Good young actors are then wasted by having them say trailer lines for two hours. The fact that this is getting good reviews is baffling.

Upon re-watch this is clearly butchered in editing. Constant jump scares, editing to make it “exciting”, and distractingly bad ADR to help explain to the audience what is happening (which should be obvious to everyone with more than half a brain). Annoys the hell out of me that everyone rejected or hated Oz Perkins’s previous films, and then love a generic shitty version of everything he did better beforehand. Congrats everyone, you get the trite shitty horror film you deserve.
