  A very visually appealing movie, I was very excited to begin my first Sean Baker project, and I was mostly satisfied. I understand the slice-of-life style but the first act feels generally directionless and inconsequential, while overstaying its welcome on establishing our characters. I think I’m a little lower than consensus, but I still enjoyed it. Didn’t quite have the emotional punch I was hoping for.

  I will never doubt Natalie Portman’s abilities again, one of the best performances I’ve seen in a while. Doesn’t hurt that it’s well shot and excellently scripted.

  Freaking awesome. McDormand, Hackman, Defoe give a masterclass of acting as Parker portrays the dread of the Jim Crow south in a way that you can almost taste the humidity. Even if it takes some nearly immoral historical liberties, this is an excellent film.

  Almost the ultimate airplane movie if that makes sense. Not an insult by any means, it’s a fun romance that really tugs on the heartstrings especially towards the end. Some really fun shots as well. Not overly complicated but doesn’t need to be. Great performances as well with fun dialogue even if it’s a little campy at times.

Following
