Blue Velvet 1986
Dream like, surreal movie. The whole way through the opening I felt rising unease in-spite of the surface mundanity of the day life and setting.
I wish I had more to say about the recurring flickering candle that appeared fifty minutes in or so. It almost felt magical; summoning something terrible and dormant from beneath the surface, something that I felt throughout the movie but couldn’t quite put my finger on.

Akira 1988
The hand drawn animation is beautiful. Very evident commentary about the effects of nuclear devastation on Japanese society which shows in the incredible world building. I genuinely had no clue where the plot was headed towards the late half of the movie but the ending still has me astonished.

The Batman 2022
I loved Robert Pattinson’s spin on The Batman and Bruce Wayne’s psyche, It’s only his 2nd year in the cape which makes his flaws and shortcomings convincing and growth feel so much more earned.
Matt Reeve’s detective mystery storytelling mixed with typical superhero action works perfectly and watching the Batman and Riddler’s ideological clash, which engulfs the whole city and unearths Gotham’s skeletons was nothing short of awe inspiring. This in addition to the memorable cast and careful capture of Gotham’s foreboding atmosphere exalts my opinion on The Batman and raises my standards for what superhero movies could be.
