What a performance by Adrian Brody, the American dream and its disillusionment will always resound in the immigrant narrative as shown.
The harsh and brutal reality of displacement and ‘otherness’ chills the blood. It is portrayed perfectly in the scene of the dinner party where the resonating clinks of crystal glasses, the money being bet and frivolities shown all contrast with László’s tragic story being told and how to the Americans it is merely a superficial dinner topic to soon be forgotten.
