  Some of the shots felt a little experimental for the sake of being experimental rather than an authentic reflection of Eo's journey—like, why the upside down skiing?—but there was something really heartfelt and moving at the center of it. I just want to give this donkey a hug.

  Okay fine, maybe I'll start leaving some reviews.

  I was obsessed with this movie when I was eleven ish and over ten years later it still holds up. Maybe this helped plant the seed for some of my love of fantasy and swashbuckling rogues. Also was a big pi/pan mood as a kid. The songs are great too (although we could have cut the whole I've Got a Dream bit imo).

  The whole scene in the tower at the end is delicious. You were my new dream!! We love a double sacrifice!

  Yeah, I did cry a little. Yeah, the costuming and sets were absolutely amazing. It still felt like it was missing something, though. The lampshading of the Barbie brand's questionable ideals/history didn't feel as nuanced as it could have been, although maybe that's inevitable when it's a movie by Mattel. I don't know, something about it felt like it was still really trying to appeal to the mainstream, which feels counter to the very point the movie seems to be trying to make, that women are often forced to make themselves palatable rather than airing their pain and grievances with full force. Anyway, hi Barbie!
