  Leave it to Soderbergh to direct a well-written, tight screenplay that manages to get the most out of a stacked cast in limited total screen time.

  Also, it’s no surprise but Pierce Brosnan looks incredible in a double-breasted suit.

  The whiplash from thinking “this is fine” to “this is going to become one of my favorite things”

  Have to watch again before I try to gather any coherent thoughts about this one specifically, but now that I’ve seen a few of his movies I can’t help but notice the through line of Lynch asking “what if you’re not alone in your own space? What nightmares could be lurking around the corner, in a closet, or out in the open?”

  Maybe it’s because my expectations were low or maybe it’s because I’m a sucker for a Ridley Scott sword and sandles epic (it’s both) but I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. There are certainly some issues (odd editing choices, goes a bit off the rails in the third act) but I thought this went about as well as you could expect for a 20+ year legacy sequel.

  There was lots of less-than-positive discourse around the film’s release…
