“Death of a Unicorn’s” predictable story, obvious satire, weak scares, and “awkward” humor rarely held my attention. Luckily, I was entertained by the fun cast, sillier moments, darkly fantastical soundtrack, a scene-stealing Will Poulter, and ridiculous unicorn violence.
Also, the CGI was very cartoony, but one could argue that it compliments the tone of the film.
Its quirky humor and odd choices can occasionally work against it, but Tim Burton’s visual style, the darker tone, impressive production design, and overall strangeness (as well as some personal nostalgia) keeps this chocolate factory adaptation entertaining for me.
