I do think there is area to improve. Its focus on differing subplots leads to question on why the scene are there, lacking a cohesive tie to the underlying cause. La La Land is the pinnacle of an antithetical romance film. The theatrics and verism brings you into a fantasy world while retaining a grounded nature. Damian Chazelle’s focus on capturing passion within an industry is a quality that spans throughout all his films and is certainly not lacking in this one. Overall the film is a course of artistry that challenges the norm of what romance films are.
