“Live every week like it’s shark week” -Tracy Jordon
so I like movies. here are my reviews.
Solid.
It’s well made and I love me some Ryan Gosling, but as someone who is a sucker for gore, I found the excessive gore to be unnecessary. The first half is quite promising, but it just turns into another stone cold killer revenge film. The idea of him being a cold, unnamed getaway driver is really neat but it turned into a type of movie that’s not that original.
Basically, I wanted more getaway driving.
De Palma clearly loves his Hitchcock, particularly Psycho. This isn’t a remake- it’s a love letter. The locations, set pieces, and characters have all been dramatically changed, but each fits into the general progression psycho follows. Dressed to Kill certainly stands on its own as its own movie. The inclusions of erotica and gore that Hitchcock couldn’t use in his day makes this film unique. Best of all, De Palma succeeds in making a consistent blend of suspense and horror.
