This movie has been my favorite romcom since childhood and everything about it still makes me beam. From the absurd premise to the exquisitely detailed set dressings, this film exudes charm and a healthy self-awareness. It never tries to be anything more than schlock at its best, and yet it still finds a sweetness that anyone who’s known young love can recognize.

What a beautiful film about how enchanting, strange, and difficult it is simply to be alive and human in a world resplendent with complexity.

At some point, someone decided this movie, ostensibly set in the modern, gritty DC cinematic universe, needed to be an even brighter and bubblier caricature of the previous film, which in itself was an uncomfortable tonal shift for the studio. Maybe they wanted make it more palatable for children? Please point me to the person who can explain how this movie fits in with the established milieu of the various Snyder-led films and even this own movie’s predecessor. Even “The…

One of the best science fiction films I’ve seen in years. Aniara has so much to say and really not enough time to say it all. The allegory to our current predicament on spaceship Earth is thinly veiled, but laid out slowly and with well-executed escalation of tension as the passengers of the eponymous starship endure increasingly strenuous trials.

There’s no getting around the film’s bleakness, either in its setting or its tone. The film strives to explore not how…

I’m only giving this film one star because I thought DiCaprio, Mulligan, Debicki, and Edgerton gave excellent performances. The other star is for F. Scott Fitzgerald because he probably needs a boost after seeing his literary masterpiece turned into a vapid, vainglorious, frigid turd suffocated by a cloyingly sweet candy shell.

Don’t let the man in the rubber suit fool you. This is a film about the horrors of war, the shame and trauma of surviving it as a combatant, the resilience of a community coming together in the face of a desperate situation, and the unimaginable terror we’ve created through the design and use of nuclear weaponry.

The love and craft put into this film far overshadow its flaws. Chris Nolan talks a big game about making films people ought…
