I thoroughly enjoyed this film and am grateful to Kineko & LonelyChaser Subs for unearthing this lost gem. The concept of the main character's relentless pursuit to avoid an 'ordinary' life was captivating. From aspiring to be Ultraman and Mirror Man to his fascination with writing about sea monsters, his quest for the extraordinary was both humorous and thought-provoking.
The scene where he challenges his interviewers about their stance on sea monsters, seemingly purposely sabotaging his job interview, was absurd yet…
Dances Of Flame really highlights some of the uncertainty & tragedies of war while showcasing the mental impact of what its like to have your whole world potentially taken away from you at any unsuspecting moment.

A fun cheesy magical adventure with a great soundtrack. This is one of those movies that I probably would've watched over & over as a kid until the VHS tape wore out.
Well despite the interesting plot description at the end of the day the story is really paper thin and just serves as a vehicle for Onyanko Club.(Which is perfectly fine by me) That said it still offers nice looking cinematography throughout and has an amazing ending concert sequence. If you are a fan at all of them or Japanese 80s Idols in general I'd say this is still well worth the watch.
Try to track down a high definition rip of this if you can too, it's pretty rare and kinda stunning to see concert & Idol footage of this quality from the 80s.
