  What really makes this doc stand out is how involved the film becomes with its subject. The fear of deportation stopping the interviews with Mayra from proceeding, that's the heartbreaker moment. On paper it shouldn't be any more impactful than the rest of what's filmed, good personal information and stories, but something about this meta technique really draws the viewer in.   Yesterday we found out David Lynch died. I don't really feel depressed, but it has been a sad day for sure. Both Matt and my mom reached out as if they found out something bad happened to ME. Just earlier this week I watched The Straight Story and just the night before I watched The Cowboy and The Frenchman. And now he's gone.
