  Pickpocket 1959

  I like this movie because it reminds me of Crime and Punishment, but I'm not sure I'd like it that much if I didn't read that book. A lot of the characters feel a little undercooked and while the leads vacant acting works for the most part the scene where he tries to be mad falls flat for me. The scenes of pickpocketing are very mesmerizing and I appreciate the gloomy tone

  There is so much going on in this movie that it's almost impossible to pick something out. But in my most recent viewing I can only really think of the porn industry and how it distorts the reality of how sex pans out. Our main protagonist has these grand visions that is grown out of her repression and her addiction to porn. Which is juxtaposed to the reality of the awkward sex scenes between her and her love interest.

  Very entertaining, but I feel like there were camp elements that didn't work with the overall tone. I kept waiting for the police captain to say, "You're a loose cannon Harker! I'm taking you off the case!". All in all a fun experience but a little goofy and cliché in parts.
