i’m sure this would’ve hit harder if i was more familiar with the original cast of snl, but as a casual fan of the show i absolutely loved it!
the pacing was absolutely perfect. reitman does a fantastic job of showcasing the chaos of those last few hours before the first ever show, without it ever feeling too overly sentimental/reverent. this movie is just an all around, across the board, damn good time

finally seeing this at the theater was so unbelievably cool.
the final scene hit me so much harder on the big screen with the drums pounding into my skull. i could practically feel the entire audience holding their breath right along with me and when that final note hits and chazelle cuts to the credits, i finally release that breath and let my shoulders sag.
walking out of the theater felt like i was coming down from a run and having to remember how to breathe correctly again

Halloween 1978
i got to watch this in theaters this time around and as a horror fan and a movie nerd i just can’t get enough of halloween. as you watch it you see in real time all of these horror tropes and the cliches of the slasher genre being established. there’s so much to dig into with things like the origination of the virginal final girl versus the punishment of female sexuality. it also has one of the best scores of all time.
