Barry Lyndon 1975
Only Kubrick could make an odyssey about a self-indulgent common man, a nobody, and overlay it on a period epic and turn it into an underrated masterpiece bleeding with satire and irony. The pace is slow, but deliberate and full of nuance and visual story telling that you can't help but eat up. And as always, the technical craft is impeccable. Now please excuse me while I play "Sarabande-Main Title" by Handel for the 5th time today.

Cronenberg, Lynch, Kubrick eat your heart out ❤️🔥. Absurd, grotesque, batshit crazy, and a damn good time. Quite possibly the most insane thing I have sat through in a cinema. I am surprised there were not walk outs. The energy of this movie was relentless and could best be described as a feast for the senses in all the best and worst ways possible. I don't think anything can really prepare you for this. Just don't eat anything while watching!

The cinematography, hair and makeup, and the performances are great, though Cooper’s performance felt a little try hard. Carrey Mulligan is the clear standout here. As a form of cinematic entertainment though, I can’t see this appealing to many people besides those interested in Bernstein’s life. An interesting watch to pass the time but not one I would likely return to in a hurry.
