La Chimera 2023
A steady but enchanting tale of a washed-up Architect and his tomb raiding escapades alongside a gaggle of rogues and rapscallions.
This is a film that gives little away yet reels you in with it's meticulous attention to detail that immerses you in the 80s rural Tuscan setting. The subtle mysticism coupled with the ramshackle aesthetic shrouds the film in a romantic enigma.
While I really liked the sentiment of the ending, I feel it could have been set up…

Promise of August 1995
This is a fun little Japanese stoner comedy where you can really start to see the sparks of the screwball surrealism that has gone on to define Ishii's style.
The plot becomes increasingly hare brained, but it doesn’t try to be anything but that. Once you accept that you can truly revel in the silliness.
Also the the honey glazed imagery of the Japenese wilderness in the summer heat has me feelin all kinds of giddy. Would love to schmoke a lil zug out there.
