  next to 2001, this is probably the best science fiction film ever made. on TOP of being one of the best horrors ever made. absolutely mental on the big screen

  the way they shot the subway car chase is one of the most grossly irresponsible and dangerous production stories i’ve ever heard and in 90% of cases it’d be totally indefensible. luckily the subway car chase scene fucking rules so it’s okay. thank you william friedkin!

  i know it’s been said a million times, but the entire prom scene reaches a seriously staggering level of perfection. the score, the strobelights, the slow-motion, the split-screen. it completely punches me in the gut every single time. deep apologies to diehards for the shining, but this is probably the best directed king adaptation. sue me for it

  what an impressive display of precision and style. eaaaaaasily his most ambitious. the more i think about it, even after just 20 minutes, the more it astounds and impresses me. the sound and editing in his movies are always a stand out, but here especially they shine like no other. laura dern also gives one of the best, if not her very best performance to date. i say this a fair bit, but i am so fucking excited to revisit this and dig even deeper. my favorite of lynch’s so far, next to the elephant man. i gotta watch twin peaks already
