The Substance 2024
Bombastic, loud, in your face, balls to the wall type of movie that still manages to deliver some hefty emotional story beats.
While the style isn’t entirely for me, it did work when it came to the body horror - I was curled up and squirming at every close up.
And the last act is too long. It’s also soo fucking funny and silly that it takes away from some of the weight of the climax.
Wouldn’t be mad if Demi won for this!

Hilariously efficient script and editing made the human scenes feel like they were playing on 1.5x speed. Rated it though. Get me to the hell yeah moments as quick as possible
Also the most monke drop kicks I’ve ever seen in a movie. Deserves plaudits for that alone
Just an incredibly tribal and masculine experience. Got me pondering, roaring, scratching. Just indulging in primitive activities with the fellas
