Incredible that at one time, a major film studio would finance a film because they wanted to and not because they thought it would make money (they didn’t; this film’s success caught them by surprise).

It’s somewhat different from the great John Cheever short story on which it’s based (more characters and situations) but it captures the deep, profound sadness nonetheless. It starts out sunny and hopeful but ends mournfully. The film is creatively bold and intelligent; its effect stays with you after it’s over.
What happens when the dynamics of a relationship suddenly and unexpectedly change are examined in writer and director Chloe Domont’s perceptive and incisive film. Solid, tense and satisfying. The film achieves that rare alchemy in being both thought provoking and smashingly entertaining.
