there’s something about how much of basel’s life has been dedicated to documentation — for safety, for existence, for a plea for help. he shouldn’t have had to do this, and yet clearly we’ve seen that coverage hasn’t affected the actions of those with power.

the violence in this was very sensual. what's the words ... erotic BDSM cosmic body horror? loved the old special effects and the concept of the cenobites being neither strictly good or evil. that scene where she relives sex with frank, intercut with her husband tearing his hand? chef's kiss, nailed the concept of how this movie transgressively intertwines pain and pleasure right into my head.

there’s an alternate universe where i watched this as a preteen and this was my sexual awakening as opposed to like. orlando bloom or whatever garden variety pretty boy was doing the rounds. i think i would have been more unhinged but also better
in actuality though while i respect what they’re going for with the slow pacing and meandering plot, i was kind of bored while watching this. would classify this as a background movie for sure, with the exception of a couple scenes (be my slave, etc etc DUH)
