I don’t think I’ve ever seen a film establish a group of characters and then never explore their dynamic at all. The bit at the farm tried to do that and then it feels like they got scared and remembered its a war film.
I don’t even think cinematically it was that engaging and certainly had no right being 140 minutes long for the story it told.
If you want something more visually engaging, watch Dunkirk. If you want characters, watch Hacksaw Ridge.
