Some of the earlier movements from doc to fiction in this absolutely knocked my socks off. The story is endearing and mostly joyful and fun while still managing to touch on some really dark moments in Charlotte's life. It is as much about her as it is about her community and the people she crosses paths with.

Also had the term "Chaser Film" introduced to me during this screening which is a term I definitely need to start using

Loved Lance Oppenheim’s prior work, but this one didn't do it for me. None of the characters except one felt fully fleshed out. The filmmakers definitely made a choice to hone in on the men/donors here, which is fine, but the women characters we do see are structurally supporting the men and lack the depth they deserved.
There was more style than substance here, and the team's focus on the theme of loneliness meant a lot of questions surrounding finances, capitalist enforcement of classic family structures, and the other "Why" questions were left untouched. The final film as a result was unbalanced.

I take the same issues with this film some of the other reviewers have already spoken to - it feels not critical enough of Robert's family who ostracized him and the medical system that killed him. At times, it feels "othering" of its protagonists, focusing on body parts and emphasizing assimilation over a celebration of transness as its own beautiful thing.
And at other moments, when the relationships featured are truly left to shine on their own, its breathtaking. As a trans person, this film is a relic, and I love it for that.
