The point may be made loudly, but I think this film does what Sci-Fi does best. Every technological fantasy or dystopian detail reinforces and expands upon the theme of the film. The performances aren’t dialed into the same frequency, but that’s okay when each character represents something distinct. I found it quite compelling, and appreciated the way it consistently reiterates the dangerous of a society that exalts a few individuals over the collective needs of all.

This is what we were waiting for! Part 2 = Payoff the movie. This movie gets to dive into truly interesting ideas, which I feel the first never was able to dive into. The blending of two cultures, and Paul’s internal struggle to make real change while sacrificing certain ideals to do so, are the thematic meat of Dune.
