    Takes the original text's punishment of female sexuality, removes the happy ending/restoration of 1800s order, lets the victim become a strong, rage-filled protagonist, then takes the final punishment about 20 steps too far.
    Though, perhaps, that begs us to consider what the suffering women of the past really felt, and how malicious and evil their society's horrific framing of their suffering was.

    Also, immaculate lighting and filming and stuff
