I must say, I enjoyed watching this movie. Great cast, an easy-to-follow plot full of political intrigue, and a true highlight in Denzel Washington's character. Part of me felt like a large driver of the plot was trying to get Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal in the same arena together, but I was ok with that. Overall, an entertaining movie, even though it might have been a bit formulaic.
I'm writing this on behalf of a guest editor:
"I'm a jazz musician, and this movie makes my skin crawl. The music is bad. The two leads have zero chemistry, who knows how they ended up on screen together. LA is a lot worse than it seems in the movie. They should've have set it in New York. City of Stars? more like the city of apples (the big apple). It's embarrassing that anyone would ever believe it held a candle to Moonlight. Damien Chazelle is the bane of my existence."
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
I watched this movie on Christmas with my family, and let me say, it was a great decision. This movie made me realize how much I like Coen brothers films. Excellent cinematography, dark humor, great cast. Frances McDormand is perfect in this role, and the contrast between her and Norm's relationship and grisly murder is amazing. Can easily say this is now one of my favorite movies and might become a holiday tradition (the snowy atmosphere is perfect). If you're up murder and wood chippers this holiday season, this is the movie for you.
