I believe that the moving image is inherently evil.

Say it with me all: The! Moving! Image! Is! Inherently! Evil!

I need to think about this.

The fact that they made Paul Bettany’s shitty little gambling enemies the Summoner and Pardoner—portrayed as the ‘worst’ and most deplorable of the Canterbury pilgrims—suggests that someone on staff read their Chaucer (though, the matter of the Pardoner’s actual gender is complicated…). Also Heath Ledger… pretty waifish… so obviously I have to give it five stars.

Every stage play at the same time! It’s literally Brechtian it’s epic theatre. I liked how there were always fantastic and beautiful people in all corners of the set and the frame. A movie constantly pointing to its own construction. I liked how Adam Driver said “Time stop for me now.” Great dialogue delivery. I liked how the shitty ‘mystic sitar’ came on when he revealed his skull face to Aubrey Plaza. A beautiful film that represents films, beautifully.
