Dune: Part Two 2024
surges forward with an unstoppable momentum on the backs of slick sci-fi world building and ill portent on a grand scale. stilgar’s breathless proclamations provide a few laughs but mostly this thing *vibrates* with the promise of unspeakable horrors on the horizon. the soundtrack has its issues but it at least nails the tone of ascendant, but doomed.
what others might see as taking itself too seriously, I see a lovingly done and faithfully executed adaptation of a complex and WILD story featuring many great actors bringing their A-game. made me excited about movies again. cheers you wily quebecois

The Matrix Resurrections 2021
it’s rare that I’ll want a movie to succeed so badly but this just doesn’t for me and it’s by one metric—the cinematography falls so terribly flat here. The consistent style of the original trilogy is absent and replaced by shaky/uncreative framing, a dull color grade, and shit lighting. I can’t even try to rationalize it as part of the larger meta-narrative about the Matrix and its place in culture. It just sucks.
Such a shame, since there’s a lot here…
