Hard Truths 2024
Marianne Jean-Baptiste’s performance was a raw and poignant portrayal of a mother grappling with severe neuroses and depression - an increasingly prevalent issue that is inherently linked to the post pandemic world. However, the ‘netflix-style’ dialogue between other characters was jarring, impossible to ignore and contributed to my rating.

Perfect Days 2023
This film has all the ingredients to be a favourite of mine - a great soundtrack, an isolated individual choosing to live life on their own + an unusual concept behind it (Tokyo Toilet Project) - and indeed it is.
Perhaps the best part about this film is its accurate depiction of the human experience, though he may appear to be living a serene and happy existence with his contemplative smile, under the surface there’s a past and pain, and just like everyone else, he is trying to hold himself together each day through routine and finding contentment in the mundane.

What a beautiful film - Fran is a woefully accurate depiction of loneliness and depression with Daisy Ridley perfecting the stare. I deeply resonated with her melancholia and stagnation, and then with the excitement of someone new coming in to her life.
I felt her sob when she realised she may have ruined a good thing for herself. ‘I don’t know you’ was my final straw and ‘It’s hard, isn’t it? Being a person?’ coming from a character she believed…
