The Last Showgirl 2024
It had such promise. I was so excited to see a dancing film. But it felt like there was no plot, no development at all, no story was told. There is absolutely nothing more to the movie than what you see in the trailer. And the way it is filmed with all those close-up, unsteady shots is so uncomfortable to watch. Monkey Man 2024
I’m normally not a fan of gore, but I really enjoyed this film. I liked the juxtaposition of the two storylines, from the past and the present, and how they shared the same themes and passions. I liked the imagery and the references to Hindu stories throughout. Thought it was very interesting to portray the frustrations, persecution and empowerment of religious and gender minorities alongside a seemingly unrelated storyline, come to find out they share many of the same histories and ambitions. On top of everything I loved the film’s energy in its visuals, colour and sounds.
