Has the world been playing a very cruel trick on me? Were these last fifteen years a dream? It would certainly explain a lot. In my personal opinion, the first three series of this show were overrated, overwritten dreck, full of stereotypes (the sinister Chinese gang in episode 2, for example) and cliches (virtually every exchange between Moriarty and Sherlock). Yet these episodes received supersonic praise like nothing else, their fans reacting like wolves whenever anyone dared question the god-given-god’s-gift-to-television…

Oh look, Sherlock is now facing another “most evil man in the world”. Unlike Magnusson, Toby Jones’ villain might actually deserve that title. The writing certainly does him more justice. He comes off like a Bond villain in the series’ opening sequence (post-credits) strutting about, chuckling. The editing flashes forward to what he’s done while he’s still explaining it, no confusing at all, no way. Especially when the characters themselves are confused — at times the editing is as chaotic…

The full film is unavailable but I was able to see an extended clip of this work in this interview with Spike.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfxCcePNBw4&t=341s This is an outstanding piece of work for a student, one which contains far more wit and insight than the D.W. Griffith film which inspired it. It's clear Spike was riled by Birth of a Nation, as most normal people are, and chose to express his frustrations in his usual creative way -- making a movie. This is…

The series could only go up after the previous episode. This segment, based on a story that was never my favourite (though, still a banger) won back a little grudging respect. Even if the solution was a bit of an obvious cop-out. As usual, difficult questions about Sherlock are avoided (he basically to manipulating and nearly driving John insane, only for his big fault to be "not admitting he was wrong". Huh?). The writing in this episode was so good I had to tip my hat to it; a joke about WKD had me guffawing.
