  Everything about this took me by complete surprise:
  It’s mere existence as a 1930s film about Book of Mormon characters, the choice of a sex worker as its protagonist, the surprisingly sympathetic portrayal of women, the quality of writing, and the self awareness (especially of Shiblon, whose over-zealousness is legitimately the funniest part of the film and is something you never expect from a religious story).

  I also loved the subplot about brotherhood and trying to love family members that are fundamentally different from you.
